Coffee
Speciality coffee is a premium coffee which is characterised by a high physical quality and a complexity of taste. It is therefore common to describe speciality coffees by the notes ‘behind’ the coffee taste: these are naturally occurring notes which can include nuts, chocolate, fruit and so on. A standard evaluation procedure from the Speciality Coffee Association gives rise to a number score: if greater than 80, the coffee is classified as a speciality coffee. All of the coffees we sell are Specialty Coffee.
Our coffee is normally packed in 250g or 500g bags. The bags are resealable with a zip-lock to help the coffee stay fresh for as long as possible.
Remembering our mantra – Freshly roasted. Freshly ground. Freshly brewed – we would prefer to provide you with whole coffee beans so you can enjoy freshly ground coffee at home. However, if do not own a coffee grinder (yet!) we will be pleased to grind the coffee for you, in our roastery for online customers, or in our shop/ takeaway in Liestal. We just ask you to specify your brew method so we know how fine to grind the coffee.
Returning to ‘freshly roasted’: we recommend you organise your purchases so that the coffee is never more than a few weeks past the date of roasting, to ensure you keep enjoying that fresh taste.
Customers often ask us whether they should store their coffee in the fridge or freezer. In principle, the colder temperatures should reduce the loss of volatile components which contribute to the taste and also slow down the staling process. However, as soon as you expose the cold coffee to warmer moist air, water will condense on the coffee and spoil it to some extent (especially with ground coffee). So on balance we would recommend that the coffee be stored in a sealed bag or other container, in a cool place out of direct sunlight (such as a kitchen cupboard).

Please allow around one week for delivery. We carry little stock of roasted coffee, to maximise freshness, so shipment depends on our roast schedule (once or twice per week) and the mail (B-Post takes two to three days within Switzerland).
We usually roast on a Monday and pack the coffee on a Tuesday. If additional roasting is required we will typically also roast on a Thursday and pack on Friday.
We are always pleased to hear from businesses who want to offer their employees fine coffee at work as a reward for their commitment. Also, hotels, restaurants, cafes and retail stockists who want to offer their customers the best in locally roasted Speciality Coffee.

We spent a lot of time considering which machine would be most appropriate, especially as we are a shop and takeaway rather than a café (we have no seating). Our customers appreciate quality coffee and as we are located in a transport hub they are usually in a hurry to catch their next connection.
We therefore decided on a top-of-the-range automated machine from Franke, to give our customers coffee drinks of consistent high quality in a time span which would enable them to continue their journey as soon as possible. We have found that this machine gives drinks of very high quality, comparable with those from a manual Portafilter, even at times of peak demand. By the way, such a machine costs more than a comparable Portafilter, but we believe it was worth the extra investment.
